He was at the church for fourteen years and taught at Nassau Christian Academy.

On November 2, 1986, Dr. David Adams became the first Bahamian Pastor of New Testament Baptist Church where he is still pastoring today. Seven other churches have been started from New Testament Baptist Church and the church supports over 50 missionaries. Seven persons (2 women and 5 men) have answered the call to fulltime Christian service out of New Testament.

Dr. Adams is also the founder of Teleos Christian School and the Fundamental Baptist Youth Conference (F.B.Y.C.) Teleos Christian school initially started in 1995 as just a Church school and officially opened to the public in 2000

Dr. Adams received his Doctorate from Baptist Christian University (Shreveport Louisiana) in 1992, as well as an Honorary Doctorate from Landmark Baptist College in 2000.

Dr. Adams Continues to Preach the Unsearchable Riches of God’s Word and God continues to use him powerfully.

New Testament Baptist Church held its first meeting on the second Sunday in April, 1971 under the direction of Brother James N. Cooper, its founder. Brother Jim, as he was affectionately called, was a man dedicated to the work and will of God. He had previously started the Calvary Baptist Church in South Caicos, Baptist Bible Church and Nassau Christian Academy in Nassau, Bahamas.
Brother Jim started New Testament Baptist Church with about twenty people in attendance for the first service,. The church first met at Wee Wisdom School for several months, and as the flock grew they began to pray concerning a larger, more permanent meeting place. God answered their prayer and the church was able to purchase six lots in Highland Park on Dolphin Drive.

In April of 1972, a ground-breaking ceremony launched a building program that culminated in the completion of the present facilities. Shortly after the church moved to its present location, Brother Cooper was stricken with a rare blood disease, aplastic anemia. He left Nassau in February, 1973 for medical treatment in the United States and for reasons known only to an omniscient God was never to return to New Testament Baptist Church. Our Lord saw fit to call him home to glory in September of that same year.

Reverend Sam Eisenbach served as interim pastor for three months during Bro. Cooper’s illness. Then in October of 1973, the church called Reverend Julius Bradshaw as pastor. He served the church until September of 1974. After his resignation, Reverend Jack Harvey was asked to serve as interim. Eight months later, the church called him as Pastor. He pastored the church until he felt it was ready to become indigenous. The church called Rev. Harold Bowe, Jr. who assumed the pastorate on Brother Harvey’s last Sunday, June 12, 1978. Brother Bowe served until September of 1979, and had to resign due to bad health. Reverend Don Isley served as supply Pastor until the church called William Medlin as Pastor in October 1980. He continued as Pastor until January 1986, when he resigned. On November 2, 1986, the church got its first Bahamian born pastor, Dr. David. L. Adams who is its present pastor.

In spite of the great attacks that Satan has made, God has abundantly blessed New Testament Baptist Church throughout these 48 years. The church is totally governed by the local body, thus making it completely independent of all other churches.

New Testament Baptist Church has from its inception been a missions-minded church. The church now supports over forty missionaries in various countries.

From New Testament Baptist Church, seven separate ministries have been started: Maranatha Baptist Church, Teleos Christian Schools, Berean Baptist Church in North Carolina, Lighthouse Baptist Church in San Salvador, Calvary Baptist Church in Haiti, Emmanuel Baptist Church in Haiti, and Fundamental Baptist Bible Institute.

The church continues to impact the lives of many through its church services, schools, camp, and other outreach ministries. Thank God for a man like Brother Jim, who gave his life to God and allowed the Lord to use him. May we as a church capture the same vision so that God may use us abundantly.
